Steve Van Zandt has been writing and singing songs for kids and families as well as leading workshops for musicians and teachers for more than 40 years. As a naturalist, educator and musician with the Banana Slug String Band’s, “Solar” Steve has co-produced 11 albums of original award-winning music. Steve’s personal songbook includes over two hundred songs along with another batch waiting for new BSSB projects. For the last 28 years Steve has been the Site Director/Principal of San Mateo Outdoor Ed, a resident outdoor school that teaches nature awareness and science to 5th and 6th grade students.
Through his work as an outdoor education principal, curriculum writer, workshop presenter and teacher trainer, Steve received the Howard Bell Award for outstanding contributions to outdoor education. Steve lives in Bonny Doon CA with his wife Laura. They have three adult children, a dog and a bunch of chickens. Steve enjoys the creative process, poetry and ping-pong, surfing and river rafting, vegan cooking and swimming under waterfalls.
